About

Silent Valley Consulting is the independent scientific advisory practice of Dale Yuzuki, focused on the commercialization of genomics, proteomics, and life science tools technology. The practice delivers three kinds of work: strategic positioning and voice-of-customer engagements for early-stage companies establishing or repositioning a product narrative; scientifically accurate content (application notes, white papers, citation briefs, conference repurposing) for established companies whose marketing teams need a fractional senior writer; and ongoing fractional advisory for executives and product leaders who want a trusted outside perspective on their go-to-market without committing to a full-time hire.

Dale Yuzuki has spent over two decades in the life science tools industry, including commercial and marketing roles at Illumina, Thermo Fisher Scientific / Life Technologies, and adjacent companies. He sold the first Illumina Genome Analyzers to the U.S. National Institutes of Health in 2007; he later sold capital equipment in oncology, genetic disease, and reproductive health for seven years before moving into marketing leadership. The thread through that career has been a willingness to learn the science deeply enough to write about it credibly (including reading and citing the primary literature ) and then to translate that science into the commercial language that laboratory directors, procurement teams, and clinical buyers actually use to make decisions.

Recent work

This expertise shows up on this site. Recent writing covers the unmet needs of NGS, the rise and fall of the QIAGEN GeneReader, single-molecule sequencing from Helicos forward, structural variation analysis from Nabsys, single-cell morphology from DeepCell, and the throughput-cost economics of the current sequencer landscape. If you are commercializing a tool, an assay, a sample-prep workflow, or a platform whose audience holds PhDs and reads methods sections, and you would love to have this kind of content for your organization, please get in touch.
